Three Cleaning Tips for Bachelors.

Posted by ecocarpetservice on October 17, 2010

When it comes to house cleaning it is well known that woman in general are far better than men. This used to be true a while ago, but nowadays more and more men are become more aware of their cleaning capabilities and men and women are becoming equal in terms of their skills to clean a dwelling.
Here are three quick tips for the bachelors out there who want to live in a healthier and more presentable home:

1.Devote every day at least 30 minutes to an hour cleaning up the house.

This can include vacuuming any carpets or rugs, pulling away all the loose and misplaced things in the home. It is recommended to sweep the floors and also dust all the common areas like counter tops, computer desks etc. By doing this you will eliminate most clutter in the house.

2.Place baskets in the kitchen, bathroom and living area.

Placing bins anywhere in the house will help remove all the clutters at home. Since the bins are not that expensive, it is suggested that you place all these bins all over the house.

3.Make sure to have air fresheners in the bathroom and living room.

The air freshener will make you think and feel that you should always be clean thus prompting you to keep cleaning the house.

With these cleaning tips, it is pretty sure that most bachelors will find cleaning the house a habit. Of course when you encounter a big stain on the carpet or your oriental rugs that cannot be easily removed you should always consult a professional cleaning company.

Why should you keep you carpet clean and tidy?

Posted by ecocarpetservice on March 31, 2010

Cleaning the house and maintaining it in complete decorum is the most difficult part of a housekeeper’s profile. The house is the place where all its residents relax and live freely without any compulsions and therefore sometimes.

Children are the primary factor who in their innocence, often don’t realize want they should do and what they should not do. Their munching of umpteen sweets and chocolates may often result in same number of wrappers on the floor. Sometimes their chewing gum can be easily found stuck on the chairs, tables, walls, carpets and expensive oriental rugs; they might not do it intentionally only a casual mistake.

Most of the times you can easily clean the furniture, the walls but certain sensitive items like any cloth or a carpet often becomes a problem. The carpets in the house are used to cover the ground and create a classy impression which works in complete harmony with the furniture, colors of the walls, the curtains etc.

It’s important that at least twice a week the carpet is cleaned with a organic carpet cleaning solution so that its luster is maintained and the fabric is also intact. Carpets are the primary defense in keeping your home clean. Often they would attract and retain most airborne particles. The “filter” nature of the carpet frequently requires organic rug cleaning to make it safe for the family members.

Carpet cleaning for the complete beautification and removal of stains, dirt, grit, sand, and allergens can be achieved by several methods, both traditional and modern. Various household products can also be used till the professional carpet cleaner is not available.

The professional carpet cleaner is certified from IIRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification) where they are educated to specialize in fabric cleaning. The fragile fabric of the carpet needs proper cleaning so that the dirt and the stains do not cut through the strands of the carpet which bind it together.

Having visitors? Organizing a Party? Easter? Christmas? Whatever may be the event you would probably love to have your carpets beautifully soft, fresh and clean for the occasion? Therefore you can easily get the carpet service you desire by the top carpet cleaner but it is very important that you choose the right person because an unqualified cleaner can cause harm to your beautiful carpet.

Five tips to maintain and prolong the life of your treasured carpets in 2010.

Posted by ecocarpetservice on February 1, 2010

1. Vacuuming. Ideally, the carpet should be vacuumed at least two times a week. A common misconception is that just by vacuuming the carpet regularly you don’t’ have to clean the carpet so often professionally. This is not true. The fact is that, dirt works like an abrasive (cutting the fibers and wearing out the carpet). Therefore it is advised by the largest carpet manufacturer to have the carpets cleaned professionally at least once a year.

2. Odor smell. In order to remove the smelly odor, there are many carpet deodorizers in the market today, but you can still use the ever-reliable baking soda or grated potato. Sprinkle them around the whole area, leave them for several hours then vacuum it thoroughly.

3. Cleaning up spills right after it happens makes the stain easy to remove. The number one mistake people make when they attempt to clean up a spill is to apply an over the counter carpet cleaning powder or solution. What happens is, the spill, (in most cases) sets into the fiber, making it difficult to remove even with professional cleaning products. Mix a quarter of a cup of water with a little bit of vinegar or club soda, dip in a cloth and then blot it toward the stain. Remember to blot and not scrub to protect the fabric material and the color. If, the stain does not disappear, leave it alone and call a professional carpet cleaner.

4. Have the carpets cleaned professionally at least once a year. The common mistake that carpet owners do is they thought they could just freelance their way with a carpet shampooer and fill them up with carpet shampoo without really going over and following the step-by-step guide of the cleaning process. They end up leaving dirt than actually getting them out. In order to avoid carpet damage, lost time and money, it is recommended to call an expert carpet cleaner for service.

5. Fabric Protector is the best way to maintain your carpet, spot and spill free in between carpet cleanings. One of the advantages in having fabric protector applied to the carpeting is that it provides peace of mind to the carpet owner. A second benefit in having the carpets fabric protected is that it provides mildew resistance in case of a water spill. A third benefit would be sun fade resistance.
The next time you want to clean your carpet, make sure you use the most effective and earth friendly way of doing it. All it takes is a little research and use of organic carpet cleaning companies.

Carpeting is an important aspect of the home decoration. The floor area covered with a carpet not only looks beautiful but it also makes the space covered more useful. An intricately designed oriental rug can bring a room to life. However they are all meant for enhancing the home decor, if neglected they can also make a beautiful home ugly. A dirty carpet not only loses its life but it also affects your health. Every time you step on your carpet, you grind dirt into the carpet fibers. This cuts your carpet, just as if you had used a knife. This cutting causes your carpet to wear out faster. Also not cleaning your carpets may cause allergies or may aggravate existing allergies of family members.

Carpets trap pollens, bacteria and chemicals in your hair and on your skin, clothing and shoes which ultimately affect your health. Vacuum everyday if possible, vacuuming removes loose soil before it becomes embedded in the fibers. The removal of abrasive soils from the carpet will help to extend the carpet’s life.

Organic rug cleaning help you to clean your rugs in a green manner without causing adverse effects to the environment as well as family members including pets.

Why do we need carpets and how are they made?

Posted by ecocarpetservice on October 22, 2009

Carpets are a great way to add finishing touches to your home’s interior decor. Carpet is popular because it provides softens the look and sounds in a room, it’s comfortable to bare feet — especially in the winter. There are many different types of carpets depending upon the material, size and the methods by which they are woven. The look and feel of a carpet will depend on the type of fiber used, the density of the tufts, and the degree of twist in each strand. Having been woven or tufted, carpets are finished in one of the following three ways:

1. Loop Pile: In this type individual strands of yarn are pulled through the carpet backing twice to create a small loop. Loop pile carpets would be a Berber, Cable or Sisal. Loop pile carpets are a good choice for high traffic areas.

2. Cut Pile Carpet: In this type the loop is cut at the top, leaving tufts of yarn that stand straight up. Examples of cut pile carpet include; Velvet or Plush, Saxony carpet, Frieze carpet, Shag Pile and textured. A cut pile carpet is generally more durable than a looped pile carpet.

3. Cut & Loop Pile: Different types and cuts of pile are combined to allow for a variety of textures, sculptured effects and color combination. Good for hiding footprints.

Fibers used to make carpet are nylon, polyester, olefin or polypropylene, wool, acrylic, cotton and rayon. Each fiber has its own set of characteristics that set it apart from the others. Olefin is a very low cost easy care material that is often used in indoor/outdoor carpeting. However Olefin is known for its toughness and properties such as being stain, dirt, fade and mold-resistant as well as fast-drying, it is soft fibers which crushes and wear easily giving it a shorter life than other fibers.

Nylon is the most popular because of its durability. It resists mildew, staining and soiling; it is generally recommended for all traffic areas. Polyesters are softer but a bit less durable and more inexpensive than nylon. They can be damaged by heat and sunlight. Acrylic carpeting is very similar to wool and is sometimes called man-made wool. It resists moisture, fading, mildew, crushing and staining but is not recommended for high traffic areas in the home. They are more expensive than nylon. Wool has the most pleasant and natural texture, and is also the most expensive carpet material.

Carpets come in many shapes and sizes. There are Wall-to-wall carpets, carpet tiles, area rugs, scatter rugs, and carpet runners. Wall-to-wall carpets cover an entire floor of a room. Carpet tiles allow for easier replacement of sections as they are needed, like in traffic patterns where the carpet wears fastest but they should be professionally installed. Area rugs are a very popular way to add some style to any room. You can also move around an area rug. The only drawback to area rugs is that they shift around under high-traffic and their edges may cause you to trip. Smaller than area rugs, scatter rugs are mainly used to protect high-traffic areas, such as an entrance way or the kitchen sinks. Runners are laid in hallways. Professional carpet cleaners give you the perfect cleaning for all your carpets and rugs.

Your carpeting is an important and costly aspect of your home, and cleaning is an important aspect of carpeting. Regular carpet cleaning and maintenance is mandatory to keep your investment look better and last longer. The type of carpeting though, somewhat determines if this is a do-it-yourself project or if you need to call professionals to handle the carpeting cleaning. In order to preserve your carpet or rug, it is recommended that you professionally clean it at least once a year and if there are stains or pets in the vicinity, then maybe every 6 months. Rug cleaning is an art and it all depends on what type of rug you have and its composition. One thing in common for rugs cleaning is that unlike carpets you cannot beat the rug to clean them. You need to know that your investment in your rug is being maintained and looked after in the best way possible. Professional rug cleaning increases the life of your rugs and improves air quality, reducing allergies and illness.

Ten Tips to a cleaner, healthier indoor environment.

Posted by ecocarpetservice on August 31, 2009

Most people are aware that outdoor air pollution can damage their health but may not know that indoor air pollution also can have significant effects. EPA studies of human exposure to air pollutants indicate that indoor air levels of many pollutants may be 2-5 times and, occasionally, more than 100 times higher than outdoor levels. These levels of indoor air pollutants are of particular concern because most people spend as much as 90% of their time indoors. The following are ten suggestions professional cleaners make for immediate improvement of their clients’ indoor environmental quality:

1. Keep Walkways and Entries Clean – Start by keeping outside sidewalks, entry areas, porches and steps clean. Sweep, dust, vacuum or use a leaf blower to remove soil and debris from entries to eliminate tracking into the facility.

2. Use Mats to Trap Soil at Entries – Exterior and interior mats to trap and contain particles and moisture should be placed at each entry. This not only extends the life of the carpet, but it also greatly reduces the quantity of particles that enter and build up in traffic areas, eventually becoming airborne.

3. Clean Shoes at Entries – Studies conducted by professional engineers on carpet dust samples indicate that fine particles containing lead are reduced by cleaning or removing and leaving shoes at the entry.

4. Purchase and Use High-Quality Vacuum Equipment – A high-quality, durable upright vacuum with brush agitation is a must. Price is not as important as quality here. Check trade or consumer magazines, and expect sales persons to provide technically accurate information. Avoid door-to-door sales tactics. Also check the Carpet and Rug Institute’s list of vacuums that are included in the Green Label Program at www.carpet-rug.com.

5. Use High-Efficiency Vacuum Filter Bag – The use of high-efficiency (HEPA-type) double-lined vacuum filter bags that filter out 99% of particles down to one micron or less in size is highly recommended. Avoid cheap, paper filter bags that remove particles down to seven microns only. Small particles that easily pass through paper filter bags are a major source of respiratory irritation, as well as household dust.

6. Vacuum Frequency – Increase the frequency of vacuuming before soils sift downward and become embedded in the carpet pile. Vacuuming should be done more slowly in entry areas where most particle soils accumulate. Traffic areas should be passed over slowly two or three times. Periodic use of vacuum unit attachments or a canister vacuum to remove accumulated soils from entries and along baseboards also is recommended.

7. HVAC Filters – Use high-quality reusable electrostatic filters for HVAC systems. These filters have acrylic rods that vibrate and create a static electricity that charges soil particles, thereby attracting them to the filter. Anticipate a cost of $50 – $100 for high-quality filters. These filters should be removed and flushed free of collected soils on a monthly basis.

8. Have Carpet and Upholstery Cleaned by a Professional on a Regular Basis – Professional cleaning compounds lift and suspend fine particles of soil. Then, careful extraction using hot water flushes them from carpet fibers. The objective of professional cleaning is to remove the maximum amount of soil (anything foreign to the construction of the fiber) with the least damage to the fiber. Specify a cleaning technician who is certified by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (I.I.C.R.C.).

9. Clean Other Soft Surfaces – Clean drapery, bedding and other fabric surfaces. Wash linens weekly.

10. Control Moisture and Humidity – Dust mites and mold are the two most common allergens present in higher-humidity climates. According to studies conducted at Wright State University, dust mite infestation will be eliminated if the relative humidity of the building, not just a particular area, is maintained below 50%. Molds, which are classified as fungi, require humidity of 70% or higher and a food source of organic-based material to grow. Cooler surfaces, which may have a relative humidity near 100%, create a perfect breeding area for mold. By reducing and maintaining the relative humidity of a structure below 50%, both dust mite infestation and mold growth will be prevented.

Ten steps to a cleaner, healthier environment – a small investment for such a big return in indoor environmental quality.

How to take care of area rugs in 2009.

Posted by ecocarpetservice on July 30, 2009

Like everything else today, rugs need special care to ensure long life. Rugs are exposed to endless
mistreatment depending on their location. An area rug might be subjected to lots of abuse. Things like dirt,
dust, sand, oily cooking residue,  smoke,  moisture (especially in kitchen or bathroom areas), along with spills and
foot traffic can have an impact on the appearance and the life of your rugs. Not only dirt damages the fiber
of your area rug but it is also a potential danger for your health as the dirt is always in the air and you will
breathe it.
Protecting your area rugs starts with proper area rug care. Regular cleaning, using proper treatments will
help extend the life of your rug. Vacuuming is the basic and primary step for caring for your rug. Even
though vacuuming removes a lot of soil, oily substances deposited on the rug also poses a problem. If left to
pile up, these oils cause matting due to the pile sticking together. Gradually the rug starts to form ridges and
the colors dim. If not removed when first noticed, it becomes hard to clean. It is also recommended that you
rotate your rugs at least once a year to avoid excessive fading or deterioration. Eco friendly or organic
methods of rug cleaning are very effective and popular nowadays. You can also take a help of eco friendly
rug cleaning expert for professional cleaning, especially deep cleaning if you want your rugs to last a long
time.
Professional rug cleaning increases the life of your rugs and improves indoor air quality, reducing allergies and
illness.

Advice on how to remove gum from the carpet.

Posted by ecocarpetservice on June 11, 2009

We all like to chew gum, but when it comes to clean it up; it can be a nightmare for most of us. Well, not anymore. After reading this article you will possess an entire arsenal of knowledge on how to get rid of any gum from carpets. First try to scrape most of the gum off the carpet. You can use a metal carpet pick, a butter knife or even a comb. Removing the larger solid chunks will make the rest of the process that much easier. If you are having issues removing the larger chunks you can try to freeze them with ice or try to or dissolve it with a gum removing gel. (After years of experimenting with both methods we find that both work very well).  The first method can be achieved by using the following technique:

1.       Gum removal with ice cubes. This technique requires some ice cubes, packed in a zip lock bag.  The bag with the ice cube is then applied directly on top of the gum. It is advised to leave the ice cubes on the gum until it hardens. Then, with the butter knife gently scrape the gum of the carpet. If only a part of the gum comes out, re apply the ice cube and reattempt to remove the gum after a few minutes.  If most of the gum is gone but there is still some left it is recommended to use the second freezing technique.

2.       Gum removal with freezing spray. This technique requires one bottle of gum remover spray, a butter knife, a few white towels and patience. The first step is to apply the Gum Removal Spray on the gum for a few seconds until it becomes hard. Then, with the butter knife try to remove the gum gently without pulling carpet fabric with it. If not all the gum comes out, try again with the freezing spray.

3.   Gum removal with dissolving gel. This technique requires professional carpet cleaning equipment and a bottle of Liquid Gel. Apply the gel on the gum and leave it to work for 10-15 minutes. Then with an injection/ extraction carpet cleaning machine go over the gum in a few strokes and the gum will be completely removed without any residue. If not all the gum comes out in the first attempt repeat this technique. This works 100% all the time on most carpets. If you encounter carpets with multiple colors, check first for color fastness. If the color of the carpet bleeds, then try the freezing method.
